Night Position open for a highly motivated Advanced Practice Provider (APPs) for the Department of Neurosurgery Inpatient Service. Responsibilities included primary patient care of hospitalized cranial and spine patients. Work with other members of the Neurosurgery service including APPs and residents. Consultation of patients in the Emergency Department and on other services.

The Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Colorado Denver School of Medicine has a 1.0 FTE faculty position available at the rank of Instructor for an NP or PA. The Department seeks an efficient team player who is highly organized and motivated to work with all Neurosurgery faculty, residents, and staff. This position will be nights only with 3 nights a week. The position provides inpatient care to the Neurosurgery patients with the collaboration of the Neurosurgery residents, attendings, and APPs. Clinical duties include:

  • Admitting patients to the hospital, performing history and physical exam, ordering appropriate labs and diagnostic studies, and follow up and formulation of treatment plan of the ordered labs or studies.
  • Assisting with discharge orders, transfer orders and associated documentation.
  • Perform efficiently in emergency situations following established protocols, remaining calm, informing appropriate persons, and documenting events.
  • Performs designated procedures with hospital privileges after demonstrated competency and according to standardized protocols where applicable.
  • Establishes and maintains communication with other health care providers and departments to ensure operational efficiency and effectiveness and to promote consistency and continuity of care.
  • Triage urgent phone calls from outpatients after normal business hours.
  • Participates with physicians and other clinicians in the department to assure effective patient care consistent with quality indicators for patients cared for in the designated service.
  • Demonstrates responsibility and accountability for own professional practice.
  • Functions as a clinical leader and educator in collaboration with physicians, nurses and others on the healthcare team.
  • Demonstrates responsibility and accountability for own professional practice.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of legal issues, including patient confidentiality and risk management, in all aspects of patient care and unit functioning.
  • Participates in research activities as requested.
  • Demonstrates a service philosophy in all interactions with patients, families, and other members of the health care team.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in the use of computers and telecommunication modalities to document, track, and convey information.


All consults must be discussed with Senior level Residents or Attendings. End of day check-out of the service to the on-call resident or NP/PA.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Must be a licensed PA-C or Nurse Practitioner

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working in inpatient care
