Graduate Teaching and Learning Librarian

The Graduate Teaching and Learning Librarian is a new position responsible for facilitating information literacy sessions and developing programs for a growing graduate student population. The successful candidate will collaborate directly with academic departments and other centralized services that support graduate students. Recognizing changes in the campus graduate curriculum, the Graduate Teaching and Learning Librarian will align information literacy teaching to encourage student success and retention. The incumbent will also facilitate student learning assessments that articulate the library's impact. In addition, the successful candidate will extend themselves to librarian colleagues by providing pedagogical training and impart knowledge and skills useful for those working with graduate students. To fully realize our teaching team approach, the Graduate Teaching and Learning Librarian will also teach sessions as part of the undergraduate information literacy program, which scaffolds across three institutions. Participating in various outreach activities to build campus and community partnerships and creating and maintaining web guides, tutorials, and other digital learning objects are also responsibilities within this position. As a library faculty member, the incumbent will participate on library and campus-wide committees. The successful candidate must be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing, desire to work in a highly collaborative environment, and have the ability to prioritize various teaching assignments, departmental initiatives, and outreach. The Graduate Teaching and Learning Librarian will engage in fulfilling the research and educational missions of the Auraria Library and the three institutions on the Auraria Campus - the University of Colorado Denver, the Metropolitan State University of Denver, and the Community College of Denver. This position is in the Education, Research, and Access Services division of the Library and reports to the Education and Outreach Services, Department Head. Examples of Work Performed:

  • Facilitates one-time instruction sessions (face-to-face and online) in a broad range of disciplines to graduate students and upper-division undergraduate courses.
  • Designs and implements curriculum and corresponding assessments.
  • Liaises with select target populations, student support services and/or community groups.
  • Delivers and promotes research consultation services across a large, complex, and rapidly changing information landscape. This includes delivering research help via appointments, f2f within or outside the Library, and virtual services (using IM, email, etc.).
  • Participates in Library and campus-wide committees.
  • Other duties as assigned..

Salary and Benefits:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree from an ALA-accredited library school or program. Degree must be conferred before the start date.
  • Experience teaching information literacy in an academic library or higher education setting.
  • Experience with outreach or services for graduate students.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Additional advanced degree.
  • Experience teaching information literacy to graduate students.
  • Experience implementing learning assessments.
  • Experience with creating digital learning objects, tutorials, or modules.
  • Experience working successfully with people from diverse cultural backgrounds including international scholars, faculty, and students.
