Full Time Business Faculty

Afghanistan is currently emphasizing development of young Afghans to lead economic and social development, and the American University of Afghanistan is the only source of American-style liberal arts education based on global standards. Established in 2005, the University has already produced a significant number of Fulbright Scholars and individuals working at high levels in government, international agencies, and private sector.
The University offers degrees in business, law, political science and public administration, and information and communications technologies. Instruction is in English. The academic year is based on the traditional fall and spring semester system with two five-week summer sessions.
The Business Department offers a Masters of Business Administration and Bachelors of Business Administration with four concentrations: Accounting, Finance, Marketing, and Operations Management. The University is a member of AACSB and has just begun the accreditation process and will work with a partner American university to improve curriculum, teaching, research, and obtain accreditation.
The Business Department’s priority hiring areas are accounting, finance, operations management, quantitative methods, and business communications. In accounting, candidates with ACCA experience or certification are preferred. The Department is seeking candidates with a background in microfinance and entrepreneurship. The Department has a business accelerator and encourages engagement with the community. In addition, The Department is also interested in candidates with experience teaching complex problem solving.
Responsibilities and Duties
The Business Department is committed to teaching excellence. Faculty members are valued for their work experience as well as academic credentials. In addition to teaching, faculty members participate on the University Faculty Senate and serve on committees and in the curriculum development and decision-making processes within the Business Department. Faculty members who are active in research and have successful publications over the past five years or experience in case writing are preferred.
- A doctorate from an American AACSB institution is highly preferred
- Significant teaching experience in the United States or Europe
- Documented evidence of teaching quality and engagement with students
- Research experience preferred with publication in peer-reviewed journals
- Experience with diverse cultures

Salaries are competitive. Additional compensation can be earned for overload teaching, summer teaching, and supervising MBA theses. Benefits for expatriates include a benefits allowance, allowance for travel to home, medical insurance, and life insurance. Housing is provided on-campus. Some support is available for professional development and research.
