About The Unit:

Unit Job Summary: Physician Assistant: Reports to the Director of The Center for Endoscopic Research and Therapeutics (CERTS) in the Section of Gastroenterology and/or assigned Supervising Physician(s), Section Administration and attending physicians assigned (monthly) to the service. Provides comprehensive care to both outpatients and inpatients within Gastroenterology practices, working within the Practice Guideline. Works collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, using advanced clinical skills to manage a caseload of patients as an independent healthcare provider. Conducts assessment, diagnosis, initiation of delegated medical treatments, independent nursing interventions and evaluation of care, in addition to certain diagnostic and/or therapeutic procedures. Provides a model of care that is shaped by theory, expanded by science, research and reflective practice, and is identified by a holistic and comprehensive approach to the patients.

Unit Education: Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant educational program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs required. Current Physician Assistant license/registration in the State of Illinois or eligibility to receive by start date required.

Unit Experience: One year experience in an inpatient/outpatient gastroenterology setting preferred. Two years experience in a medical/surgical setting preferred.

Unit Job Function Competencies: Knowledge of basic medical terminology required. Knowledge of pharmacy, phlebotomy, injections, and EKG required. Ability to provide direct patient care in a professional and respectful manner required. Excellent verbal and written communication required. Ability to read documents or instruments required. Ability to perform detailed work required. Ability to perform multiple concurrent tasks with occasional interruptions required. Ability to exercise discretion and confidentiality while handling sensitive required.
