Overview

Princeton University Campus Recreation seeks to improve the health and well-being of the University community through the core principles of fitness and wellness, healthy competition, lifelong skill development, and community-building. These guiding principles aim to improve the quality of life on campus and strengthen the ties between and among undergraduates, graduate students, faculty/staff, and community. Campus Recreation provides educational and leadership opportunities through instructional programs, intramural activities, sport club teams, and student employment for diverse levels of skill and ability. As the focal point of recreation, Dillon Gymnasium provides a full range of facilities for participation in personal fitness and wellness, and informal recreation at the crossroads of the Princeton campus.



Responsibilities



The Campus Recreation program encompasses a 90,000 square foot facility, over 500 intramural teams, 37 active sport clubs, and a robust group fitness program that offers over 1,800 classes in 44 different offerings, which serves the needs of students, faculty, staff and guests of the University.



Reporting to the Director of Athletics with day-to-day supervision by the Executive Associate in charge of Internal Operations, the responsibilities of the Associate Director/Senior Associate Director of Athletics for Campus Recreation include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Oversee Dillon Gym, the 90,000 sq. ft. indoor facility and monitor all major facility projects.
  • Direct all recreational programming, which includes Group Fitness Programs, Sport Club Programs, Intramural Sports Programs, Informal Recreation Programs, and a thriving summer day camp.
  • Oversee budget for all components of Campus Recreation, which includes generating funds to support a self-funded Group Fitness and Informal Recreation Program.
  • Supervise 4-6 full-time direct reports, a student marketing group, several interns, and casual hourly workers.
  • Serve as a wellness liaison by communicating and connecting with all units on campus regarding the Health and Well Being of the Princeton University community.
  • Coordinate Co-Curricular Learning programming for staff development that includes students, professional staff, casual hourly workers, and independent contractors.
  • Represent Princeton University Campus Recreation on committees, boards, and focus groups across campus and in the community.
  • Advocate for Diversity and Inclusion in all programming.
  • Develop a strategic plan for campus recreation that includes program growth based on emerging recreational trends.


Qualifications

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Excellent management skills.
  • Understanding of health, recreation and sports at the collegiate level.
  • Experience with budgeting, financial controls and fiscal accountability.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups as students, deans, senior administrators, faculty and staff.
  • Excellent organizational, long-range planning, supervisory and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven ability to relate effectively to a wide variety of people of diverse backgrounds, including an understanding and respect for cultural, ethnic and individual differences.
  • Demonstrated ability to make hard decisions in a fair and equitable manner.
  • Knowledge of current trends in recreational programming.
  • Creativity, flexibility, resilience, intelligence, and patience.
  • Energetic, visionary who will cultivate an environment of collaboration and shared commitment to physical health and fitness.
  • Bold, calculated risk-taker, with diverse expertise in a variety of health and fitness areas, including recreation, sport clubs, health improvement and health maintenance.



PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master's Degree or more, plus 7-10 years of professional experience is required.
  • Affiliation with NIRSA or another professional association in Higher Education.
  • An Advanced degree and significant experience in managing a comprehensive collegiate Campus Recreation Program is preferred.
