Northwest Regional Data Center
Assists the Network Team in implementing and managing highly advanced and complex enterprise networks for NWRDC and its customers. Provides installation, troubleshooting and maintenance for various Cisco router, switch and VPN systems at NWRDC. Configures firewall systems. Develops system specifications and requirements based on networking trends and customer needs.
Provides network connectivity support both internally and for NWRDC customers. Determines, tests and validates potential solutions.
Provides backup support for network related Linux OS and Intel hardware systems.
Other duties and responsibilities as required by supervisor.
Will participate in an after-hours support and/or team on-call rotation as needed
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS, or other appropriate area and two years of relevant experience; or a high school education and relevant education and/or experience equal to six years.
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Ability to convey technical information to technical and non- technical users.
Ability to document existing and new processes.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Ability to evaluate process effectiveness and develop change or alternatives.
Ability to prioritize, organize, and perform multiple work assignments simultaneously.
Ability to utilize problem solving skills.
Knowledge of Cisco routers, switches, VPN and firewalls.
Knowledge of routing protocols.
Knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply related federal, state, and local laws, ordinances, rules and regulations.
Knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply related University policies and procedures.
Knowledge of standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the network and data field.
Experience in a Network Administrator role, or experience working with LANs and their components.
Hands on experience in networking, routing and switching is preferred
Knowledge of best practices around management, control, and monitoring of network LAN’s
Experience with using monitoring tools and familiar with SNMP set up, or the ability to learn new tools for monitoring
Must be a quick learner and be able to handle a fast paced environment
Juniper, Cisco, or Palo Alto Certification or proven hands on experience working with these in a production Network environment
This is an A&P (Administrative and Professional) position.
If not otherwise specified, schedule is M-F, 8-5.
