Under the general direction of the Director, Student Health Center, and supervision of the Sr. Registered Nurse, the individual in this position will be solely responsible for the operation of the Student Health Center/ Internal Medicine in-office lab, including assuring compliance to pertinent regulations and technology related to lab operations and providing direct customer service to students/patients. Incumbent will work independently in managing the lab operations and maintaining excellent customer service as well as in his/her interactions with the Lennar Department of Pathology Lab and between Student Health Services Medical EMR and UM lab information systems. Incumbent will be responsible for obtaining and processing point of care / CLIA-waived labs tests, obtaining and forwarding specimens to Lennar Department of Pathology lab for non-waived tests, Responsible for proper operation of laboratory equipment, maintenance of laboratory records including quality control, quality assurance, instrument logs, and inventory and ordering of lab reagents and supplies.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
•Adhere with laboratory policies/procedures for Infection Control, including employee blood borne pathogen exposures in accordance with Occupational Safety & Health Act (OSHA), CDC and AABB/AATB Standards. Performs quality control procedures per protocol and completes necessary documentation and corrective action as needed. Ensures that quality control is within acceptable guidelines and parameters consistent with protocol.
•Recommend performance improvement processes of the lab operations. Participates in continuing performance improvement to insure continuous improvement of services provided. Attends appropriate orientation and training courses to maintain competency in job skills and knowledge. Participates in required educational program, including LIS/HIS, safety, infection control, etc.
•Maintain confidentiality of all patient information according to federal and state guidelines and regulations. Respects the rights, privacy and property of others at all times including the confidentiality of information, according to Administrative Policies, the Privacy Act of 1974 and applicable laws and regulations.
•Properly identify, handle, and access patient samples requiring laboratory testing.
•Responsible for the timely and accurate transport of specimens.
•Responsible for the timely and accurate communication of test results when needed.
•Develop and maintain required laboratory file and log system in a neat and accurate manner.
•Perform specimen processing as required.
•Maintains adequate inventory level as per protocol.
•Establish and Maintain laboratory work area in clean and orderly condition.
•Prepare monthly and other periodic data reports.
•Manage the purchase, requisition, and maintenance of the laboratory stock of supplies.
•Assists SHS RN’s and other medical personnel with their assigned responsibilities when able to do so.
•Performs other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Demonstrated knowledge of:
• The basic principles and practices in the operation of an in-office, CLIA waived laboratory.
• Records, forms and reports used in the area of assignment.
• EMR, lab information systems and competency in the use of technology to perform lab and administrative functions.
• Excellent organizational skills to be able to manage multiple priorities effectively.
• Excellent interpersonal skills in interacting with other departments.
• Excellent customer service skills in interacting with students/patients.
• Excellent phlebotomy skills.
• Demonstrated ability to provide effective assistance in the conduct of laboratory projects as needed.
• Working knowledge of infection control procedures and safety precautions.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing and understand and follow oral and written instructions.

Education Requirements (Essential Requirements):
• High School diploma or equivalent.
• HIV Certification.
• CPR Certification.
• Phlebotomy Certification preferred.

Work Experience Requirements (Essential Requirements):
• Three (3) years of relevant experience in laboratory operations, including phlebotomy, performance of waived tests and use of EMR/ LIS. Apply online. Position #: P100029139.
