Financial Management Services (FMS) provides financial services and support to Stanford's distributed communities including University faculty, staff, students, parents, alumni, investors and bondholders, donors, and suppliers. FMS consists of five primary organizations: Controller's Office, Office of the Treasurer, Procurement, Global Business Services, and Financial Management Consulting & Support (FMCS). The FMS operates within a highly decentralized and distributed nature of Stanford's governance and administrative operations.

JOB PURPOSE: The Business Solutions Manager is a key member of the Business Architecture, Support and Enablement (BASE) team within FMCS, and is responsible for specifying, designing and implementing business information systems to ensure that the University's financial business needs are addressed in an efficient and optimal manner.

The Business Solutions Manager will report to the Director of Business Solutions, and will provide strategic leadership and management for functional and institutional programs, operations and projects in terms of defining governance, process and information architecture.

  • Direct staff and provide leadership to achieve goals and vision of the organization.
  • Plan, direct, coordinate, monitor and review the work of others during all phases of the project team's work and coordinate the planning, development and presentation of training for users of business systems.
  • Lead the elicitation and gathering of business and system requirements.
  • Analyze, design and implement complex management information systems.
  • Analyze new business requirements, system functionality, current system use and user needs; specify functional designs and work with developers and analysts to implement.
  • Develop system design for new or revised business systems; document and analyze input/output requirements, procedural flow between departments, operational audits and organizational structures.
  • Possess high level of influence and build relationships with key business and IT stakeholders in order to advise executive management on programmatic and policy development.
  • Manage negotiation with peers to come to agreed-upon and productive solutions to business problems.
  • Manage external vendor or partner relationships.
  • Perform the full range or independent phases of project management cycle: initiating, planning, executing, monitoring and controlling, and closing. Independently lead and direct projects requiring high levels of functional integration and multiple teams.
  • Direct development of an action plan, and estimate requirements for resources, including management, labor, materials, and time required to complete project.
  • Help create and execute comprehensive change management strategy and communication plan relative to project/portfolio scope and stakeholders; orchestrate and lead change management methodologies underlying project success.
  • Participate in planning and delivering a Customer Relationship Manager (CRM) software strategy across FMS, ensuring an architectural structure and business workflows that optimize the customer engagement process.
  • Play a critical role in supporting the development of analytics and reporting capabilities foundational to the success of the FMS Services portfolio. * - Other duties may also be assigned MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Education & Experience: Bachelor's degree and eight (8) years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience. Experience in a quantitative discipline such as computer science, engineering, accounting, finance, or statistics preferred.

  • Frequently perform desk-based computer tasks, use telephone, writing by hand, sort/file paperwork.
  • Occasionally stand/walk, lift/carry objects weighing 11-20 pounds.
