LBRE is seeking qualified applicants for the Lighting Technician II position. This is a full-time one year fixed term position.

Responsibilities: The Lighting Technician II is responsible to repair, service and maintain a variety of existing nonresidential lighting fixtures and install retrofit upgrade fixtures, both indoors and outdoors, throughout the university. This position works under general supervision in the electrical area, disconnecting and performing work on existing de-energized fixtures and minor energized fixtures such as switch converters.

A Lighting Technician II may reconnect power to existing power within 3 feet. A Lighting Technician II is may be required to the duties of a Lighting Technician I. Assignments are normally received in the form of work orders or verbal instructions.

Characteristic Duties:
  • Removing and installing new lighting on replacement fixtures only
  • Testing for voltage using voltage test instruments
  • Dismantling and rewiring existing fixtures as necessary for proper function
  • Installing, maintaining and repairing emergency and regular ballasts
  • Safely disconnecting line power and alternate power sources (generator or inverter); identifying and securing emergency circuits
  • Repairing designated light fixtures and circuits limited to switch, lamp, ballast and sockets)
  • Troubleshooting the problem, recommending and following the choice of lighting to install (per Facility Design Guidelines)
  • Maintaining rolling lamp inventory in service vehicle
Qualifications:
  • Minimum 2 years of satisfactory lighting experience as a Lighting Technician
  • Demonstrated ability to follow and use electrical safety procedures (e.g., lock out tag out)
  • Knowledge of recent NEC lighting codes, lighting products and parts required for the job
  • Ability to apply work orders
  • Must be able to perform work in special settings (e.g., occupied spaces, laboratories, classrooms and offices)
  • Work safely, independently and efficiently
  • Excellent customer service orientation
  • Demonstrated high level of communication with supervisors, co-workers, building managers and customers to understand the issue and provide status and resolution
  • Ability to operate and work from a scissor lift, one-man bucket lift or a ladder; must be able to transport the equipment to job sites
  • Must be able to work from heights, including 8-12 foot ladders
  • When conducting university business, must comply with the California Vehicle Code and Stanford University driving requirements
