Life Science Research Technician I

Life Science Research Technician I at Stanford University's Hopkins Marine Station, in Pacific Grove, CA. One year fixed term 100% FTE position. Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, the technician will assist with research related to the viability and cost-effectiveness of a novel biological control approach to reduce or eliminate human schistosomiasis, based on the reintroduction of native crustacean predators of snails in small aquaculture facilities. The position will also include grant reports and data analysis.

Research duties include:

  • perform lab and field experiments on defined research projects, keep note of the outcomes, interpret the results and run statistical analysis of experimental and literature retrieved data;

  • organize project agenda, travel plans, keep control of deadlines and maintain the communication with non-Stanford project partners;

  • assist in all the phases of the publication and outreach process including writing projects report, research proposal, drafts for the media and contents for project and lab websites;

  • contribute to lab maintenance.

The successful applicant will be highly organized, have attention to detail, be able to work as an independent part of a team, have basic understanding of, and facility with, standard computer software programs including MS-Office and R statistical language, and have practical experience with basic mapping tools such as Google Earth and/or ArcGis.
