The Department of Communication and Media Design at Marymount University in the Washington DC metro area, invites applications for adjunct positions to teach undergraduate courses in Visual Communication and Design (visual literacy) or Electronic Publishing or Web and Social Media Design. The positions involve teaching one/two courses per semester.

Visual Communications and Design focuses on the aesthetics of visual images and symbols for visual literacy. Students develop an understanding of visual images, symbols, and messaging in art, photography, and digital media. And how to apply these theories to design concepts and to analyze visual communications.

Electronic Publishing is an introduction to the fundamentals of electronic publishing using Adobe InDesign software. Students integrate type and images to produce common business publications for print or use on the Internet.

Web and Social Media Design is an introduction to the fundamentals of web and social media design and technology. Students write, design, and produce web and social media sites for organizations and causes using WordPress.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree with 18 graduate credits required in the discipline to be taught.

MA, MS, MFA or PhD in Visual Communication, Graphic Design, Media Design, Communication or related field.

Preferred Qualifications

Work experience in related field.

Responsibility / Duty

Adjunct faculty are professionals with the responsibility of providing a quality learning
experience for Marymount University students on a semester basis. Adjunct faculty report to a dean, chair, or director and perform instruction-related duties and responsibilities in a timely manner and in accordance with the mission, policies and procedures of the university. The relationship of the adjunct faculty member to the student is one of teacher and facilitator of learning. Each adjunct is hired to instruct a particular course (s) within a department. The chair of the department will review all duties as assigned, particular to course being contracted to be taught.
