Job Description Summary

The Finance and Administration Business Office is responsible for managing the overall Accounting, Financial Reporting, Payroll and Treasury operations of the College. This includes managing internal controls to mitigate risks; ensuring that the official financial records of the College are current and accurate; safeguarding College assets to minimize risk of financial loss; and developing and maintaining reporting tools and guidelines to provide high-quality financial information that supports the College’s mission, strategic management initiatives, and leadership vision. Georgia Highlands College is seeking a qualified and dynamic Financial Reporting and Compliance Accountant. This individual reports to the Assistant Controller and is responsible for Financial Reporting, General Accounting, Capital Project Accounting, and Grants and Contracts Accounting. The Financial Reporting and Compliance Accountant will assist with the Annual External Audit for the State Accounting Office. In addition, they will participates in the preparation, review, and analysis of the College’s annual financial statements including in-depth knowledge and analysis of applicable Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) pronouncements.

Key Qualifications

• A Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
• Minimum 3 years of professional accounting experience
• Considerable knowledge of assessing annual financial statements
• Demonstrated ability to perform analysis of applicable GASB pronouncements
• Demonstrated ability to ensure effective accountability and custody of financial assets
• Demonstrated ability to manage all financial reporting activities to Federal and State Regulatory Agencies
• Considerable experience preparing, reviewing, and analyzing College annual financial statements
• Experience assessing and streamlining processes/ procedures
• Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite

Key Responsibilities

Duties include; but are not limited to:
• Assists with ensuring effective accountability and custody of financial assets
• Manages all financial reporting activities to Federal and State Regulatory agencies
• Provides accuracy, integrity and compliance with internal controls, and applicable regulatory mandates including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB), promulgations, and reporting provisions
• Maintains reporting and compliance functions of the grants and contracts
• Prepares accurate and timely year-end financial reports
• Works with departments to facilitate compliance with policies/procedures and manages accuracy and timeliness of information
• Responsible for assessment and streamlining of processes/procedures to ensure effectiveness and efficiency
• Develops and provides training and process improvements
