Position Summary: The Internal Auditor position is located in the Arkansas State University (ASU) System office in Little Rock, Arkansas, and works under the direction of the Assistant Vice President for Administration.

The individual in this position is responsible for conducting fiscal, operational, and investigative audits for the university. This is a non-classified position governed by Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, the Institute of Internal Auditors International Professional Practices Framework (IPPF), federal and state laws, as well as university operating policies and procedures.

DESCRIPTION


Independently develop audit programs

Execute a wide variety of audit procedures/tests

Accurately interpret the results against defined criteria so that the work is competently and efficiently performed in accordance with professional and departmental standards

Reviews and analyze the efficiency of administrative functions, internal controls, departmental procedures and record keeping techniques to determine compliance with federal/state laws, universal operating policies and procedures, and contractual obligations

Follow up on previous audit exceptions to ensure corrections have been made

Assist with the overall audit department objectives

Perform related responsibilities as required and assigned by the Assistant Vice President for Administration

General Days/Hours: Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Schedule may varying based on departmental needs.
Other: The Internal Auditor has regular contact with university management, faculty, and staff. Participation in local and state organizations is encouraged. Travel to campuses, conferences and training sessions is required.
Knowledge/Skills/Ability: Sound independent judgment with a demonstrated commitment to the criteria, professionalism, and integrity as outlined in the Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing, Statements on Internal Auditing Standards, and the Institute of Internal Auditors Code of Ethics.

Ability to evaluate fiscal operations and controls, identify areas of non-compliance with law or accepted procedures, and recommended corrective actions.

Flexible and able to work under pressure to meet deadlines and respond to requests.

Ability to multi-task and grasp information quickly.

Maintain up to date knowledge of new audit regulations/trends, audit methodologies, best practices, and tools.

Knowledge of automated accounting systems (e.g. SCT Banner, Campus Management, and/or Datatel).

Skilled in written and verbal communication, including active listening skills.

Skilled in presenting findings and recommendations.

Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with co-workers, staff and external contacts.

Strong desire to learn new skills and expand his/her existing skills over time
Proficient use of computer (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
Minimum Qualifications: B.S. Degree in Accounting or related discipline, such as Finance or Business Administration, is required. A Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification and a minimum of two years’ experience in governmental auditing are preferred.
