A project scientist position is available at the University of California, Irvine, in the field of terrestrial remote sensing. The successful candidate will conduct analysis of satellite imagery and create remote sensing products, reports, and papers for different stakeholder groups and university research projects. The project scientist will be expected to lead project design, proposal writing, and publication of project findings in peer-reviewed science journals. Strong written and oral communication skills are essential. Experience working with Landsat, Sentinel, or similar moderate or high-resolution satellite imagery is required, along with a strong background in using scripting languages such as Python, Matlab, R, ArcGIS, or Interactive Data Language. Experience with managing large geospatial data sets and the application of machine learning or complex statistical algorithms is also important. A Ph.D. in geography, earth science, engineering, or a related discipline is required, and some postdoctoral experience is desirable. Funding is available for a 3-year period, and is contingent on satisfactory progress in years 1 and 2. The project scientist is expected to play an important long-term role in the development of UCI's new Center on Geospatial Data Solutions for Climate and the Environment through working with faculty, students, and community stakeholders associated with the Departments of Earth System Science, Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, Civil and Environmental Engineering, along with university research centers such as the Center for Environmental Biology, Water UCI, UCI OCEANS, and UCI-Nature.
