Occupational Summary

Conduct a variety of investigations in the planning, development and implementation of experimental procedures, with a focus on flow cytometry, tissue digestion, cell preparation, cell staining, cell culture, and basic molecular biology, within the overall scope of a research project at Duke University.

Work Performed

Perform tissue digestion and cell isolation; perform flow cytometry assays; perform data analysis; and support cell culture workflows.
Perform a variety of complex technical duties involved in conducting experiments to obtain data for research purposes; compile and document experimental results.
Confer with principal investigator to review work assignments and develop plans to meet the needs of the particular experiment as required.
Review laboratory methods manual, scientific journals, abstracts and other literature for information applicable to research experiments. Duties and procedures may include, but are not limited to: preparing specimens for flow cytometry, performing molecular biology and some routine cell culture work under the guidance of principal investigator and other lab members in support of research-oriented activities at Duke University.
Maintain records and documentation of sample acquisitions and all work performed in organized lab notebook and in an institutional database. Be able to clearly communicate and present results to principal investigator and other lab members.
Review journals, abstracts and scientific literature to keep abreast of new developments and to obtain information regarding previous experiments to aid in the design and development of procedures and techniques.
Maintain laboratory inventory of reagents and lab supplies needed to conduct research.
Prepare and maintain reagents, buffers and media for procedures described above.

Preferred Qualifications: Two years experience preferred. Must have experience with flow cytometry instruments.
