About The Unit: GRADTalk is a suite of programs and resources that help graduate students and postdocs increase the impact of their scholarship and build public speaking and interviewing skills. GRADTalk offers group workshops as well as one-on-one consultations to prepare students, postdocs, and alumni for specific events such as job interviews, conference presentations, and job talks. In fall quarter 2016 alone, GRADTalk provided over 300 hours of individual consultations and over 10 workshops. GRADTalk is a part of UChicagoGRAD's career development team that provides career advising and professional development programming for all 9000+ graduate students and postdocs. UChicagoGRAD is a one-stop shop of integrated services to help graduate students and postdocs navigate their academic and professional careers. UChicagoGRAD programs offer flexible training that complements support in academic units.

Unit Job Summary: Responsibilities: One-on-one consultations with students and postdocs (40%) - Conduct individual 50-minute meetings with graduate students and postdocs who seek help with interviewing and public speaking skills. - Provide positive, constructive feedback as well as concrete tips and strategies on general and specific oral communication needs. - Direct students to other resources as needed - Record advising notes in Symplicity at the end of each session - Respond to follow-up inquiries from students by email - Maintain and grow personal knowledge of interview and public speaking theory and best practices Workshop and resource development and execution (30%) - Develop and deliver oral-communications related workshops across campus. - Coordinate with campus partners to design and customize workshops and programs to fit the needs of various populations of graduate students and postdocs. - Generate new materials (powerpoints and handouts) and tailor existing materials for custom programs that serve specific student populations - Develop new digital and written resources an update existing resources as needed Administrative duties (30%) - Lead team of 2-4 graduate student consultants including hiring new consultants as needed. - Serve as primary reporting contact for consultants and manage workflow and calendar coordination for all GRADTalk advising and programs. - Maintain timely communication with Director of Graduate Career Development, GRADTalk consultants and other stakeholders including administrative and faculty partners - Attend weekly career development team meetings - Participate in relevant professional training as assigned

Unit Education: PhD at hand or defense date in Summer of 2017 AND/OR 2+ years of professional communications coaching experience required
