Applications are invited for the position of Chief, Department of Paediatric Laboratory Medicine at the Hospital for Sick Children, in Toronto at the rank of Associate or full Professor. The anticipated start date will be January 1, 2018.
The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) is an international leader in paediatric health care, education, and research. The Department of Paediatric Laboratory Medicine (DPLM) at SickKids is a major paediatric diagnostic and reference centre, performing routine and specialized diagnostic testing in support of the full range of paediatric clinical specialties. DPLM is composed of the Divisions of Anatomic Pathology, Clinical Biochemistry, Haematopathology, Microbiology, and Genome Diagnostics. A very active, collaborative and productive research program is in place, including basic science and clinical research, with a special emphasis on translational research. DPLM has strong ties to the SickKids Research Institute and to the
Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology at the University of Toronto.
The successful candidate will be an internationally recognized leader, scholar and respected clinician. The successful candidate must have the leadership qualities and management skills necessary to direct a large department while fostering an environment of academic and clinical excellence. S/he will have the ability to take the Department of Paediatric Laboratory Medicine to a new level of international recognition and academic achievement. Applicants must possess a medical degree and be a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in a branch of Laboratory Medicine, or equivalent. The candidate should be eligible for licensure by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. The successful candidate will be expected to hold a position in the SickKids Research Institute and also to be eligible for an academic appointment in the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology at the University of Toronto at the rank of Associate or Full Professor. Rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Minimum salary and benefits for MD is in accordance with the uniform minimum level of compensation for laboratory physicians in Ontario, currently $348,000 per annum.
