The Director, Sponsored Research BU School of Public Health is seeking an Director of Sponsored Research to provide expert, hands-on support and guidance in all aspects of sponsored research activities including contract and grant administration, award interpretation and negotiation, proposal review, sub-award administration and post-award management. The Director will act as a key team member working to advise, support, educate and encourage faculty and staff members across SPH in their efforts to obtain external support for their research. Works closely with the Deans to develop tools to analyze funding trends, conditions, and projections on a wide variety of sponsored research data.

Works closely with members of the BU SPH and BU central communities to influence and develop methods and policies to promote a vigorous and growing research portfolio. Characteristic Duties/Responsibilities: Actively participate in the development, communication and interpretation of BU SPH policies related to the administration of sponsored programs Assist and advise on matters pertaining to laws and regulations affecting sponsored projects, risk assessment, and compliance Provide analysis and reports to SPH leadership on a wide variety of sponsored research data Review sponsored research proposals on behalf of SPH, providing financial and technical expertise in the development of proposals, drafting sub-agreements and amendments as needed Overall responsibility for the management of all awards and sub-awards, including the ability to negotiate sponsored awards and resolve complex issues such as facilities and administrative cost recovery, and reduction of budget without reduction of scope of work Research, communicate, and assist and advise faculty on potential funding sources; create template and/or other technology-based tool to summarize key grant proposal requirements and conditions Works with senior leaders to develop and recommend standards for terms and conditions for sponsored research agreements and provide judgement when applying standards to novel situations Ensures compliance and adherence to all policies, procedures and regulations that impact the acceptance and administration of grants and contracts Work closely with department and center grants administrators in the development and implementation of consistent and streamlined proposal production techniques and processes. Act as a liaison with Foundations and other funders on behalf of Principal Investigators as needed

Required Skills

- 7+ years of experince and a Bachelors degree or equivalent combination of training and education required.
- Minimum of seven years related experience in substantial role in research administration.
- Experience in budget development, cost analysis and proposal review.
- Must possess a thorough knowledge of intramural and extramural government regulations.
- Must possess demonstrated knowledge of government and non-government funding agencies, policies, procedures and government regulations concerning research compliance.
- Excellent organizational, financial reporting, interpersonal, time management and communication skills are required.
