TCNJ’s Center for Community Engaged Learning and Research (CELR) invites candidates to apply for the position of Bonner Community Scholars Program Coordinator. Two positions are available.

Located within the Bonner Institute, part of TCNJ’s CELR Center, the Bonner Community Scholars Program Coordinator manages a group of approximately 50 TCNJ Bonner Community Scholars, provides developmental training and enrichment opportunities, and mentors and guides Bonners through their college careers and the student development model of the Bonner Foundation. The Bonner Coordinator will work closely with students, community partners, and campus partners to ensure the success of TCNJ Bonners, the TCNJ Bonner program, and relationships and responsibilities to community partners.

Key Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Supporting community partner-based teams of 4-10 Bonners with site-relevant training and preparation

  • Ensuring Bonner performance goals are met, along with assessing and reporting on Bonner performance and achievements individually, with their partners, and programmatically

  • Designing and implementing trainings and workshops for Bonners at different stages of their education and experience

  • Providing holistic personal, academic, and professional mentoring and guidance for Bonners

  • Maintaining and developing mutually beneficial relationships with community partners, non-profit organizations, and public agencies in the Trenton/Mercer County region

  • Supporting students in the design and implementation of educational issue forums and events

  • Designing, implementing, and supporting at least one of the required service trips for TCNJ Bonner Community Scholars annually

  • Supervising and supporting full-time AmeriCorps member

  • Coordinating and collaborating with CEL Division staff members in the effective implementation of Community Engaged Learning experiences and activities in the region

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with principles and values of community-campus partnerships

  • Familiarity with community-based organizations and non-profit processes, specifically in Trenton/Mercer County

  • Ability to work with different stakeholders with differing interests and priorities, including faculty, TCNJ staff, TCNJ students, community organization staff, and public figures

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with diverse groups of individuals

  • Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and projects at the same time

  • Effective and culturally competent and humble communication skills

  • Experience supervising and managing students

  • Experience designing and implementing plans and projects

  • Experience with community service and community engagement theory and practice

  • A Bachelor’s Degree is preferred, however some college combined with work experience may substitute for a degree

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in and familiarity with culture of higher education institutions

  • Experience developing and sustaining effective operations management systems

  • Experience with service learning/community engaged learning theory and practice

  • Knowledge of environmental issues and experience developing and managing projects and initiatives related to campus sustainability

  • Flexible and ability to adapt to change

This is a grant-funded position with an anticipated salary starting at $44,500. Annual reappointment is contingent upon performance and funding availability.
