West Virginia has some of the most beautiful landscapes on the east coast, with scenic mountains, dense wilderness areas, and fast running rivers that make the state a year-round playground for the outdoor enthusiast. The eastern panhandle is located in the scenic Shenandoah Valley and has a relaxing atmosphere, full of history, with the charm of a small community. Only 1 hour drive to Baltimore and D.C, Martinsburg is ideally located, with all the amenities of a large city, but in an affordable location.
The eastern panhandle continues to post the largest population growth rate in the state, over 56% in the last 20 years with its population younger and more educated than the state average. There is record economic growth in the region and 40% of residents hold jobs in neighboring northern VA, suburban MD, and downtown DC. The panhandle has the lowest unemployment rate in the state, and with the expanding high income population, continued commercial and industrial development is projected to continue along the I-81 corridor.
