Description: Provide design and support services at the Carl R. Woese Institute for Genomic Biology (IGB), a research institute that is home to multiple research themes and external partnerships. As part of a creative team, develop print and electronic materials for a number of different marketing, media, and outreach initiatives that support IGB research.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

PRINT DESIGN: Create designs, concepts, and sample layouts based on knowledge of design principles using professional page layout and graphic design software tools; consult with commercial printers regarding format and print processes utilizing preflight and prepress best practices; and assemble final layouts to prepare files for printer.

WEB SITE DESIGN: Develop, design, and create layout, graphics, animation, video, and sound content for the various web sites hosted within the IGB. Stay current with latest trends in web site design, accessibility, and usability, and makes recommendations for incorporating new features into the sites.

PHOTOGRAPHY: Use photographic equipment to perform custom and specialized photography in-house or on location for use in publications, exhibits and displays; determine site setup, camera settings, lighting requirements, and location considerations to ensure quality results; edit and manipulate photos; and manage digital photograph library.

Position Requirements and Qualifications:

Education:

Required: Bachelor's degree.

Preferred: Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design or related field

Experience:

Required: Minimum of three years of applicable experience, in a Macintosh-based environment.

Preferred: Experience in the marketing of higher education is beneficial.

Knowledge Requirements:

Required: Applicants should have strong artistic ability and proficiency with industry standard software, including Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator) and Microsoft Office products (particularly Powerpoint). Superior client-relation skills, teamwork, and attention to detail are essential. Possess strong organizational skills and a thorough knowledge of all aspects of print and web production. Demonstrated ability to perform in a professional demeanor in a diverse and fast-paced work environment consisting of mulitple and changing priorities, under minimal supervision.

Preferred: Multi-media design experience is helpful but not required.

Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. This position is a 12-month, 100% time academic professional appointment with regular University benefits. The proposed starting date is negotiable after the close date.
