Work Performed
  • Develop, implement, and administer Innovation and Entrepreneurship (I&E) translational programs for undergraduates in Arts &Sciences and graduate students in departments associated with Arts & Sciences.
  • Mentor faculty, staff and students in innovation-based business ideas.
  • Work with colleagues in I & E Education, Research and Experience pillars to deliver high quality entrepreneurship programming for Arts & Sciences across each pillar.
  • Identify and implement joint translational programs between I&E and Duke initiatives, institutes, and departments within Arts & Sciences Collaborate with existing internal and external partnership programs to develop or highlight opportunities for involvement in I&E translational programming
  • Work closely with arts & sciences faculty and academic leadership to define and interpret needs for I&E translational programs and develop program proposals and support materials.
  • Support I&E's Director and senior strategists in shepherding and supporting the progress of Initiative proposals through the Duke faculty governance system.
  • Collaborate and cultivate relationships with other comparable universities to explore best practices for program development, as well as opportunities for partnerships across the universities.
  • Participate actively in the preparation of curriculum and the identification of faculty to teach in I&E courses.
  • Teach at least one course per semester in entrepreneurship on topics to be developed in conjunction with the senior strategist for Education.
  • Oversee development of a robust evaluation and assessment program for arts & sciences I&E translational offerings.
  • Prepare reports and analyses setting forth progress in meeting the translational goals of the I&E Initiative, noting positive impacts, adverse trends, and appropriate recommendations and conclusions.
  • Determine fiscal requirements and prepare budgetary recommendations for I&E Arts & Sciences translational programs; monitor, verify, and reconcile expenditure of budgeted funds.
  • Supervise and coordinate the work of designated employees; manage personnel activities to meet university and departmental objectives; direct various personnel functions including, but not limited to, hiring, training and development, performance appraisals, promotions, transfers, vacation schedules, and disciplinary actions.
  • Ensure compliance with university policies and procedures, particularly as they related to translational programs and human resource management.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein
Required Qualifications
Education
Work requires knowledge of science methods and educational principles,curriculum development, and instructional design, as well as analytical,organizational, and communications skills generally acquired throughcompletion of a masters degree program. Ph.D. preferred.
Experience
Work requires a minimum of five years experience within auniversity, preferably to include direct experience teaching withundergraduate and/or graduate students, conducting and/or supervisingresearch, and working with faculty to develop and improve curricularrequirements within a department or school.OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Prefer candidates with counseling, communications, analytical, and organization skills generally acquired through completion of an MBA program.

Experience
Prefer candidates with eight to ten years of experience in entrepreneurial and intrapreneurial management and counseling for new venture creation, and established professional network in the venture capital and innovation communities.

Skills
This position requires excellent counseling, strategy, organizational, logistics, and planning skills. This position requires both collaboration and supervision, so strong personal interaction and development skills are required. Additionally,this position requires distributive academic, cross- cultural, and communication skills in order to interact effectively with faculty, students, I&E colleagues, Duke University offices, alumni, and external partners. This individual also is expected to possess the skills needed to make independent decisions in situations with a high level of ambiguity.
