RESEARCH SPECIALIST D
Duties: Applicant will act as Director of Animal Research Studies in an Immunotherapy Research Laboratory. This will involve managing and supervising daily operations for animal study conduct within the animal facility. Primary duties will include: 1) perform independent animal studies including experimental design, analysis, and report generation for government, foundation and industry sponsored projects, 2) oversee all animal study operations in the laboratory including purchasing, colony maintenance, animal transfers, and equipment oversight, 3) supervise graduate and undergraduate students in the animal facility, 4) teach small animal surgical procedures, 5) conduct sophisticated small animal surgeries related to sponsored research projects, 6) manage new hires to support the candidate in day to day operations, 7) write all IACUC protocols and maintain compliance with regulatory policies. Extensive expertise is required in small animal surgeries and imaging of small animals, the use and maintenance of genetic mouse models of cancer, laboratory management, immune assessment assays (e.g. flow cytometry and immunohistochemistry) and writing of IACUC protocols and project reports. The research environment is stimulating and the candidate will provide a lead role for multiple projects in a translational research program that investigates multiple cancers and immunological therapies.
Qualifications: Master's degree and 3 to 5 years of experience in the conduct of animal studies and management of animal operations or an equivalent combination of education and experience required. Technical experience with small animal surgeries, genetic mouse models of cancer, mouse colony maintenance and small animal imaging is required. Excellent computer and communication skills are preferred. Meticulous record keeping and good management skills are essential for this position.
