Posting Summary:
The Genome Sciences Laboratory at the Center for Public Health Genomics is seeking an enthusiastic and proactive individual for a Laboratory Technician position. The incumbent is expected to work both independently and as a team member depending on the specific projects or tasks at hand. Primary responsibilities are, but not limited to, receiving and managing human biospecimens from multiple studies, DNA extraction, performing extensive quality assessment and quality control on DNA or RNA samples, storing, cataloguing and tracking the usage of biospecimens and documenting related activities through laboratory reports. The incumbent will also assist other members of the CPHG Genome Sciences Laboratory as necessary with high-throughput genotyping and sequencing projects, laboratory equipment maintenance, and will help with budget creation and ordering. The incumbent should have an interest in furthering their knowledge of genetics.

Applicant must have an Bachelor's Degree in Genetics, Biochemistry, Biology or related sciences. Position requires at least one year of experience in a laboratory environment. Student experience will be considered. The successful candidate must have knowledge of general lab procedures, experience handling large datasets, and familiarity with computerized databases. Knowledge of high-throughput genotyping is preferred. Experience with GenomeStudio or Progeny is preferred.

This is a restricted position and is contingent upon the continued availability of funding.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
1. Knowledge of general lab procedures.
2. Experience handling large datasets and familiarity with computerized databases.
3. Excellent computing skills.
4. Must be motivated, independent, and highly organized, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
