CU South Denver is managed by the University of Colorado Denver, a comprehensive urban research university serving more than 28,000 students in metropolitan Denver and online. Located east of I-25 along Lincoln Ave. in Parker, the building was donated to the University of Colorado in 2015. The gift of the entire building and operations allows for more services, more convenience, and more value to be delivered to South Denver residents, employers, and business professionals. Classes are offered for degree-seeking and continuing education students and include popular interest areas such as nursing, engineering, education and business. CU South Denver serves as a cultural center and community asset, including an art and natural history museum, a large-screen movie theater, K-12 museum education programs, and community events for all ages. Position Emphasis:
This as-needed position in our Events and Catering unit performs duties related to setup, greeting, serving guests and breakdown of events within the guidelines set by the University of Colorado, CU South Denver, Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment and the Events & Catering Manager.

This position requires a high level of customer service skill, food service, and has professional approach, as this position's purpose is to interact with our guests and ensure they have a great experience. At all times, servers are expected to be attentive to our guest needs and making them feel welcome, comfortable, important and relaxed. The Server is a part-time and full-time, as needed position and requires the flexibility to work evenings, weekends and holidays.

Examples of Work Performed:
  • Greet all guests with enthusiasm and friendliness; answer guest questions about food, beverages, and facilities.
  • Clock in for shift in full uniform, ready to work, and no earlier than fifteen minutes prior to shift and no later than start time of scheduled shift.
  • Adhere to grooming and appearance standards consistently.
  • Follow standard operating procedures.
  • Working knowledge of all food, health, safety and sanitation procedures.
  • Communicate with food and beverage staff to ensure guest satisfaction and communicate any problems, concerns or special needs.
  • Identify food orders when ready and deliver to tables in a timely manner.
  • Serve guests at event by delivering items, fulfilling customer needs, removing courses, replenishing utensils, refilling glasses.
  • As bartenders, must be able to pour and mix drinks in appropriates portions in a timely and efficient manner. Bartenders need to be TIPS certified.
  • Provide the highest level of service and maintain a high degree of professionalism.
  • May be assigned to work multiple stations throughout the shift.
  • Implement and follow sanitary practices for food handling, general cleanliness and maintenance of kitchen and/or dining areas.
  • Maintain high standards of safety and cleanliness in all areas.
  • Performing basic cleaning tasks as needed or directed by Events and Catering Manager or Assistant Manager, Banquet Captain or Executive Chef.
  • Perform other related duties, tasks and responsibilities as required from time to time.
  • Participate in organized training and meetings to learn new aspects related to the job and retain current information on CU, events, and general campus operations.
  • Present and maintain an organized, positive, and welcoming atmosphere for all CU Denver South constituents.
  • Respond to requests from guests, supervisors and management in a timely, professional and efficient manner.
  • Duties and responsibilities can be changed, expanded, reduced or other duties as assigned by the Executive Chef, Events and Catering Manager, the Business Operations Director, or the Vice Chancellor of South Denver.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Prior customer service experience.
Conditions of Employment:
  • 18 years of age to serve alcohol. Must be 21 years of age to bartend.
  • Must be willing and able to work flexible shifts and schedules, including weekends and holidays.
  • Must be willing and able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be willing and able to stand, walk, lift, and bend for an entire shift.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • One year prior experience serving food and beverage.

  • Ability to quickly and effectively meet the culinary needs of customers who use the CU Denver South location for their events.
  • Flexible work style and attitude with a willingness to work as a member of a fast-paced team.
  • Ability to work productively under pressure
  • Ability to be resourceful and utilize available resources in order to appropriately assist event attendees.
  • Knowledge and willingness to be trained about the resources offered and provided at all University of Colorado campuses.

  • Ability to communicate in the primary language(s) used in the workplace.
  • Working knowledge of all food, health, safety and sanitation procedures.
