Summary of Job Duties

The Financial Aid Specialist works under general supervision and is responsible for assisting the call center supervisor in counseling students and parents over the phone. This position will provide answers to callers by being familiar with federal, state, and university policies and regulations and by looking up student data in the integrated student information system. The Financial Aid Specialist will have the opportunity to visit orientation sessions on campus in order to present information concerning financial aid procedures and will work with their supervisor to assist in default management efforts. A working knowledge of phone etiquette, word processing, email, spreadsheets, and database management programs is a necessity. This position handles highly sensitive information pertaining to students and parents.

The Financial Aid Specialist must have the ability to work as a team member in a dynamic organization, possess a positive attitude, and be customer service oriented. The ability to perform accurately in a detail-oriented environment with good interpersonal communication skills and the ability to organize and make decisions are critical. This position must be able to relate well with a diverse student population and work well under pressure, independently, and in a team environment. Tact, diplomacy, and good judgment in dealing with all customers is crucial. Knowledge of financial aid principles is a plus. Must be able to read and interpret written communications well.

Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.
