Position Summary

Michigan State University’s International Studies and Programs (ISP) seeks a Program coordinator to serve as the initial point of contact for ISP's Youth Empowerment Program (YEP) and provides programmatic and administrative support to the Assistant Dean for MasterCard Foundation Scholars and Youth Empowerment Programs.

  Major position responsibilities:  

Program Coordination

- Research, analyze, and document (in the appropriate format) data and other materials related to global youth    education,entrepreneurship and leadership in order to keep the Assistant Dean well-informed of activities in the sector

- Assist with research for proposal development and report writing

- Support event planning for special events such as conferences, award ceremonies and student centered activities

- Manage communication between MSU faculty and YEP project partners and beneficiaries

- Draft and edit talking points, letters,correspondence, and other communications on behalf of the Assistant Dean

- Prepare the Assistant Dean for YEP task force, TMCFSP committees, and other university committees

 

Office Administration  

Manage the day-to-day administrative affairs of the YEP office including:

- Screen incoming phone calls,emails, and mail, determine whether or not the issue requires the attention of the Assistant Dean,  and responding accordingly

- Track important dates and facilitate activities to ensure that deadlines for key initiatives are met

- Coordinate calendars for the Assistant Dean to ensure that time is scheduled efficiently by prioritizing requests and resolving    conflicts with little guidance

- Arrange travel including but not limited to: requesting and obtaining travel authorizations,processing travel reimbursements,  making travel accommodations

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired through the first two or three years of college, such as an Associate's degree in a business-related field with course work in research, writing, editing and word processing; six months to one year of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in word processing, database, spreadsheet, presentation software; office procedures, or in performing responsibilities related to the operational activities of the program; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications Familiarity with Desktop Publishing and Adobe Office Suite; excellent written and verbal communication skills; strong research skills; ability to provide high quality customer service using strong interpersonal skills; proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook; ability to maintain confidentiality; ability to understand complex problems and develop effective solutions; ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously; knowledge of general university policies and procedures.
