Library Assistant IV
The position reports to the Head of the Fine Arts Library; independently oversees and coordinates the daily operations of the Fine Arts Library, an internal branch of the Main Library; provides assistance to library users at the circulation desk and answers questions using standard reference sources and systems; hires, trains, evaluates, and supervises the work of student assistants,and monitors the payroll and budget; orders music materials from vendors and resolves vendor problems when necessary; oversees and processes assigned reading materials (course reserves) for the unit; processes new music and art materials, provides maintenance for existing collection, and prepares materials for binding and repair; works with Music and Art Librarians to continually enhance and assess music and art services to all MSU patrons; works with other library units in order to coordinate consistent materials processing and loan policies and develops and documents procedures and policies; assists with special and ongoing projects.
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in an office setting; experience with database, spreadsheet, word processing, library automation system support; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Recent work experience in an academic library.Desired Qualifications
Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the library, its collections, classification scheme, catalog, and computer systems; knowledge of library terminology, and library computer applications; academic course work and/or degree in music preferred; knowledge of art and/or art history desirable; ability to identify information and/or read and translate one or more foreign languages; customer service experience or substantive experience working with the public.
