Position Summary

Provides patient care for ill and injured animals; instructs and demonstrates techniques to students; assists students and clinicians in their work; maintains supplies, equipment and cleanliness of hospital areas. This position works in the Rehabilitation unit of the Veterinary Medical Center, working on the first shift schedule including rotating holidays.

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge normally acquired in the first two or three years in college, technical or vocational school in Veterinary Technology; six months to one year of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in extensive patient care, surgery, anesthesia, drug-dosing, and sterilization; experience in the use of spreadsheet and word processing software; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; licensed as a Veterinary Technician with the State of Michigan or attainment of such certification within one year from date of employment.

Desired Qualifications

Certification as a rehabilitation technician, previous experience in an educational setting

Work Hours

NON-STANDARD ( Monday through Friday 9am-6pm )

Summary of Physical Demands

Lifting of animal patients onto cages and medical equipment; carrying animals between cages, gurneys and treatments areas; pushing carts containing animals and equipment to other units; restraining animals.

Summary of Health Risks

Caring for animals with potential TB and rabies risk; may wear a respirator.
