Position Summary

The English Language Center (known as the ELC) provides English language instruction for international students from around the globe.  The Center offers a wide range of programming options for students who want to prove their English language skills before enrolling in a full-time academic program.  The ELC also has a robust testing program that offers English-language screening for international teaching assistants and international students and for those in need of English-language certification in the U.S. and abroad. Faculty at the ELC work closely with graduate students who are training to be English language teachers.

 

The successful candidate will serve as the fiscal officer and support staff supervisor for ELC. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, budget/financial oversight of general fund, gift, grant and revolving accounts; facilities planning and space management, human resources, personnel management, and supervision of support staff the center and other administrative duties as assigned; will be expected to communicate clearly and effectively,both verbally and in writing, with a wide range of clients.

 

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge normally acquired from specialized training such as that acquired in Business and Office Management; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in supervision, office management, budget preparation, financial and administrative record-keeping and secretarial skills; experience in word processing, spreadsheet, database, desktop publishing, and/or web page design or presentation software; or in performing responsibilities related to the operational activities of the employing unit; and may require one to three years of supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree in business administration or equivalent combination of education and experience; experience with HR, budgeting and fund accounting principles; experience with SAP HR/Payroll and Kuali Financial Systems and Cognos Business Intelligence reporting; experience in processing grant applications/proposals, amendments and awards; experience in working with hard deadlines; knowledge of faculty and student hiring procedures including international guidelines; experience with travel policies including international; experience with procurement policies; experience with coordinating and scheduling activities and events related to academic/research programs; experience with interacting with faculty administrators; knowledge and experience with electronic calendaring; very high proficiency in Microsoft Office products, Web-based software, database systems and on-line systems;excellent written and oral communication skills; proven ability to think critically, be a team player, and take initiative; ability to search for and summarize information; ability to self-train and seek out professional development to stay current; customer service driven; self-starter; self-motivated; independent worker; ability to multi-task; very strong organizational skills; experience supervising.
