Position Summary

The successful candidate will triage patient calls, provide front and back desk medical office support (including recording patient history), take vital signs, and recording chief complaints; will handle a range of clerical support functions, such as: collecting copays; obtaining insurance verification and authorizations; coordinating referrals; scheduling patient appointments; maintaining office equipment; ordering office supplies; maintaining databases and clinic files; scheduling conferences and physician/staff appointments; arranging travel and travel reimbursement; billing and invoicing mailing, copying, and faxing; assisting with office procedures as required; maintaining clinic flow; copying and updating patient charts; completing and verifying forms; maintaining general filing system; monitoring supply inventory; attending monthly support staff meetings; taking meeting minutes; other duties as assigned.

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge normally acquired through a high school education; six months to one year of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in a medical office performing routine health assessment test; experience in word processing, and database software; a specified medical course such as Nurse Health Aid and Phlebotomy, or Medical Billing and Medical Terminology experience; experience with electronic medical record and patient scheduling systems; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be a certified medical assistant with current certification.  

Desired Qualifications

Working knowledge of EBS, Athena EMR, and business procedures and policies; excellent written and verbal communication skills (doctors’ offices, facilities, and patients) including phone etiquette; intermediate working knowledge of MS Office programs including Excel, Access, Word, Publisher, PowerPoint; knowledge of medical billing practices, including coding using ICD-9; and ability to work as a team player; must have exceptional organizational skills; reliable transportation to travel to various outreach locations and meetings during and outside of clinic hours.
