Visiting Assistant Professor of Rhetoric

Location: Hampden Sydney, VA

Closes: Jul 15, 2017

Hampden-Sydney College invites applications for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor of Rhetoric, beginning August 2017, to teach courses in our first-year composition program.

The successful candidate will teach seven courses per year; these courses will include some combination of Rhetoric 100, 101, and 102. Our writing classes are capped at 14 students to allow for close student-faculty interaction. Hampden-Sydney’s Rhetoric Program—praised and supported by its administration, faculty, and alumni as a central part of the curriculum—was established in 1978 with the mandate that students be able to “write and speak clearly, cogently, and grammatically.” A minor in rhetoric offers students extensive study in both writing and speaking.

Hampden-Sydney College, located on a beautiful 1000-acre campus in Virginia, is a selective liberal arts college for men enrolling about 1,100 students. Visiting Assistant Professors at Hampden-Sydney College receive a competitive salary, professional travel funds, and health and other benefits.

Qualifications include college composition teaching experience and a degree in Rhetoric, Rhetorical Studies, Rhetoric and Communication, English, or related field. PhD preferred, but we will consider candidates with an MA or ABD.

Please apply through Interfolio by submitting a letter of application, curriculum vitae, and three letters of reference.

Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled. Please direct inquiries to Dr. Katherine Weese, Director of the Rhetoric Program, Hampden-Sydney College, Hampden-Sydney, VA 23943; 434-223-6254.
