Description:

The Associate Director - Club Sports, Intramural Sports, and Recreation is directly responsible for all recreation programming within Recreation and Intramural Sports at Georgia Gwinnett College (GGC), along with assisting all Club Sport teams. This position has direct supervision of one (1) full-time area coordinator of Recreation and Intramural Sports.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct leadership in the development of a coordinated, diverse, high quality program including the creation and implementation of new and/or special programs.
  • Independently implement, administer and evaluate day-to-day activities of the unit, function or program, act as key contact.?
  • Manage, support and evaluate the coordinator in each content area, as well as directly supervise student-staff assistants in all program areas.
  • Assist and support the Director of Wellness and Recreation with the execution of numerous executive and administrative duties of considerable scope and complexity requiring excellent initiative, judgment, knowledge and critical thinking.
  • Provide effective customer service delivery, management of associated risks and liability, evaluation and development of programs, procedures, and operating solutions.?
  • Cultivate an inclusive, safe, and diverse environment for students as well as student staff; address patron comments, concerns, behavior, and conduct issues as necessary.
  • Collaborate with other areas on campus within and outside of the Office of Student Affairs with programming where needed.
  • Responsible for creating, implementing, and maintaining an effective marketing plan for the area of Wellness and Recreation that ties in all ambits of that area, which includes Outdoor Adventures, Recreation/Intramurals, Club Sports, as well as the Wellness and Recreation Center.
  • Responsible for creating, forecasting, monitoring, and allocating the various budgets associated with the position, which includes club sports, recreation, and intramurals.
  • Purchase and maintenance of program equipment and supplies, to include all recreation related facility renewal projects.
  • Oversee the scheduling of all intramural facilities to ensure all user groups (internal and external) receive adequate/appropriate use, as well as develop, implement and evaluate risk management policies and procedures for recreation and club sports related programs and spaces.
  • Collaborate and/or partner with other student and GGC organizations as well as academic units on health, fitness and wellness programs.
  • Design and implement professional staff development opportunities for the Coordinator of Recreation/Intramurals, as well as the student employees, and club officers for that area.
  • Utilize strategic planning, conceptualization, critical thinking, independent judgment, problem solving, creativity, initiative, vision and innovation to ensure quality in all areas of responsibility.
  • Write and implement the policies and procedures for Club Sports, Intramural Sports, and Recreation, as well as work in conjunction with other areas like Student Integrity to enforce those policies and procedures.
  • Serve on campus committees as assigned, and actively participate in other campus activities as are related to the area.
  • Perform other duties that will assist in the overall growth of the area as well as the institution.

Minimum and Preferred Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Education & Experience

  • Master's degree in Exercise Science, Sport Management or related field
  • Four (4) years of related experience; (two (2) years of Graduate Assistant experience is equal to 1 year of full-time experience)
  • Experience with basic computer programs such as Microsoft word, excel spreadsheets, desktop publishing, and other basic functions

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Knowledge of online scheduling systems, such as IM Leagues, and ability to utilize them
  • Knowledge of officiating and ability to conduct officiating training
  • Working knowledge of sports and recreation program management theories, practices, procedures and techniques of collegiate Intramural and Club Sports programs
  • Knowledge of NIRSA rules and guidelines for participation in recreational athletics
  • Financial management skills
  • Ability to simultaneously; exercise mature judgment; tactfully resolve difficult situations; communicate effectively, both verbally and in written form
  • Ability to develop and coordinate Intramural and Club Sports programs
  • Ability to create, and manage club sports teams, which includes working within NIRSA guidelines in regards to scheduling games/tournaments, and creating game and practice schedules
  • Ability to create and implement marketing strategies for Intramural and Club Sports
  • Ability to train employees in operation of programs and be involved in training referees on fundamentals of most sports
  • Ability to work with diverse populations

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Management experience with an emphasis on campus recreation programming and administration.
  • Full time professional staff supervision and evidence of student development activity (including hiring, training, supervising, scheduling, payroll and evaluation).
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with diverse groups.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Experience with developing and assessing learning outcomes and general assessment experience desirable.
  • Knowledge of liability issues as they apply to facilities and equipment.
