Position Summary

Independently coordinates and oversees the Late Night Operations (11:45 p.m. – 7:45 a.m. Sunday-Thursday) at the Main Library; provides information and assistance to library users and staff; responsible for the safety of patrons, security within the building, safeguarding the collections, and various inventories; serves as a liaison with custodial staff and DPPS personnel during each shift; responds to health, safety and security emergencies and contacts appropriate authorities or medical personnel as necessary; oversees Patron Services department workflow; supervision/training of student staff; resolves patron complaints; will explain and interpret complex library policies; creates and troubleshoots complex computer records, cash handling, and handling non-routine situations, etc.; troubleshoots printers and other building equipment; independently extracts and compiles data from a variety of sources to inform library decisions; other duties as assigned. Duties associated with this position will involve moderate physical effort.

 

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in an office setting; experience with library automation system support; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Requires recent experience in an academic library.

Desired Qualifications

Experience with library electronic resources, the library online catalog and Sierra system; detail oriented with high level of accuracy; ability to identify and resolve problems exercising excellent judgment; excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills and ability to interact professionally and effectively with the Library’s multi-cultural/multi-generational patrons; ability to handle varied, multiple and competing priorities.
