Position Summary:

Provide guidance and counseling to students in matters related to academic goals, choice of curriculum, course load, study habits, and course scheduling. Complete degree checks for individual students and student groups as needed. Assist with student orientation, whether freshman or transfer students. Develops and/or completes college/school documents such as classroom assignments, plans of study, curriculum guides, graduation forms, and study abroad documentation. Serve as a resource for the university’s student database including coordinating input, generating reports, training users, and recommending updates. Verify/report student and course information which may include (but not limited to) class rolls, grades, academic certification of athletes/veterans, statistical analyses, and/or forced drops. Evaluate and/or update student records in order to post grades, do graduation checks, monitor student progress, and advise students on an appropriate course of study. May assist with recruitment of prospective students.

Department Specific Essential Job Functions:

Acts as a resource person for transformational learning opportunities helping students find appropriate co-curricular activities which will provide opportunities for leadership, undergraduate research, scholarship and creative activity, civic engagement, service learning, global and cultural competencies, and health and wellness.

Acts as a liaison between the College of Liberal Arts academic departments and Liberal Arts students, attending department meetings and consulting with department chairpersons as needed.

Acts as a liaison between the College of Liberal Arts and other offices on campus such as the Volunteer & Service Learning Center, the Centre for Global Competency, and Career Services to foster communication about transformational learning opportunities and about student utilization of success oriented services.

Counsels students regarding academic endeavors.

Works with the College of Liberal Arts Curriculum Committee to give advice on new course proposals, program changes, and new program proposals.

Provides feedback to College of Liberal Arts departments regarding student trends in enrollment and major selection.

Provides guidance to students in selection of a major; participates in the College of Liberal Arts Declare a Major Month.

Assists in the development and implementation of student success programs and materials.

Makes recommendations related to policy changes to the College of Liberal Arts and Enrollment Management.

Completes degree checks for individual students and student groups as needed.

Articulates course work as needed.

May provide guidance and direction to clerical staff and part-time advisors as required.

Oversees a particular area of expertise in student retention.

Participates in training and evaluative sessions and recommends to the assistant directors of Academic Advising and Retention methods to improve advisement activities.

Performs other related duties as assigned.


Salary: $35,690 annually
