Degree and Area of Specialization:

B.S., Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or closely related field.



Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:

2 Years of experience working with children (6 wks.-5 years) and teaching 4K in a group/school setting preferred.



License or certificate:

Must hold a current Department of Public Instruction 4K teaching license from the State of Wisconsin that includes PreK certification on the license. Registry level 14 or above preferred.



Position Summary:

The School of Human Ecology's Preschool Laboratory (PSL) is a child development and early learning program for community children and also a teaching and research laboratory for University students, faculty and staff. We offer year round programs for children ages 6 weeks-5 years. We are a community partner with the Madison Metropolitan School District to provide 4K programming with licensed teachers. We have a tripartite mission: (1) to provide UW students with carefully supervised training opportunities associated with their course of study; (2) to provide a population and a setting in which UW faculty and students can conduct research on issues related to child development, early learning, family studies and other related areas; and (3) to engage in outreach activities, such as hosting professionals and scholars from around the world, serving on committees, providing continuing education to other teachers in the community and helping organize community service projects. The Preschool Laboratory has provided excellence in early childhood education, research, and teacher training for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers and college students since its inception in 1926.

The Preschool Laboratory, in the School of Human Ecology, is searching for an exceptional 4K teacher to join our PSL team. Must pass a yearly Criminal Background Check and Caregiver Background Check and one-time fingerprinting will be performed. A TB test and health examination is required not more than 12 months prior to or 30 days after the first day of employment. A CPR certificate (including training in infant and child CPR, and training in AED) must be on file within 6 months of the first day of work. Training in Shaken Baby syndrome, SIDS and in Mandated Reporting of Child Abuse are required. Training can be provided by PSL staff during first week of employment.

Candidates should be able to keep up with the physical demands of the job including getting up and down from the floor on a continuous daily basis; sitting on small chairs 12 inches off the floor; lifting children up to 35 pounds; bending to change diapers or wipe low tables and floor spills; reaching for containers from upper shelves; moving with children during large motor and other activities several times each day.
Must be reliable in reporting to scheduled work shifts and be able to mentally keep track of multiple activities occurring at the same time.
