MOUNT ST. MARY'S UNIVERSITY
The Mount St. Mary's University community seeks a Provost to assist in leading the institution to its next level of success through collaborative and innovative leadership, a strong commitment to academic excellence, and student-centered values.
Mount St. Mary's University (MSMU) is a comprehensive, coeducational, Catholic institution dedicated to liberal learning in the pursuit of truth. The second oldest Catholic university in the country, MSMU describes itself as "Catholic in a contemporary way" and welcomes students of all faiths and backgrounds. Located in Emmitsburg, Maryland, the University serves more than 2,000 diverse undergraduate and graduate students at its two locations, promoting a holistic approach to the student experience and learning.
MSMU's educational identity and mission combine the institution's core curriculum, rigorous liberal arts classes with a focus on building values-based leadership, and a major of the undergraduate student's choosing. Additionally, MSMU offers mission-driven graduate programs that enable ethical leadership in varied fields. MSMU, particularly its 120 dedicated full-time faculty members, fosters an intimate and student-centered community. MSMU prides itself on a student to teacher ratio of 13:1 and that 52% of classes have fewer than 20 students.
MSMU's academic programs are housed within the College of Liberal Arts, two Schools - Richard J. Bolte, Sr. School of Business, and the School of Natural Science and Mathematics and the Division of Education. A dynamic and vibrant learning community, MSMU offers more than 30 undergraduate majors and programs of study, eight graduate degree programs, and several degree completion programs for working adults. MSMU also offers various graduate certificate programs. For students balancing work, family and education, adult undergraduate and graduate degree programs – located at the Frederick Campus - are offered in varied formats (i.e., five-, eight- or 15-week sessions). While most of the graduate coursework is held at the Frederick Campus, courses are also offered on the Emmitsburg campus.
The Provost reports to President Tim Trainor and serves as the MSMU's chief academic officer. The successful candidate will be the principal champion for innovative vision, leadership, and strategic direction for the University's academic programs. Other key qualifications include: passionate and energetic leadership; significant experience in teaching, scholarship and service; a proven track record of success in academic administration at an institution similar to MSMU; significant experience with the development, implementation and assessment of academic programs; and a strong commitment to shared governance, open communication and transparency. An earned doctorate and eligibility for the rank of full professor with tenure in one of MSMU's disciplines is required.
