General Summary of Position:
The Director of College Based Professional Advising will provide the leadership and day-to-day oversight for a new centrally coordinated team of professional advisors who are housed in academic colleges. Starting in the fall 2017, all incoming UML students will be assigned a professional advisor in addition to a faculty advisor/mentor. The Director will lead the team of professional advisors and partner with the Centers for Learning and other campus partners to develop a comprehensive, holistic and proactive advising strategy for undergraduate students. This strategy will includes evaluating student needs, assisting them in developing appropriate educational plans that include individualized 4-year graduation plans, and making sure they have timely and accurate information on program and general education requirements; registration matters; departmental, college, and university policies and procedures; academic success strategies; financial literacy; graduation requirements; and career options. In addition, the Director will be responsible for developing training materials and resources to support the continuous improvement of advising at UMass Lowell. The director will also carry an advising load.

Minimum Qualifications (Required):
-Master's Degree or higher in College Student Personnel/Higher Education Administration/ Counseling/ Psychology or related field
-Minimum of 5-7 years of full-time (or equivalent) experience working with college students at the undergraduate level
-The ability to work effectively with diverse groups
-Also must possess excellent written and oral communication skills
-Extensive experience with Microsoft Word and Excel

Other Considerations:
-Supervisory experience preferred
-Minimum of 5-7 years academic advising experience in a developmental setting
-Experience is preferred with implementation of solutions to facilitate student academic retention, success, and graduation
-General knowledge of the principles, practices, and trends in the area of advising, student services, and individual counseling techniques
-Experience with event and program planning is a plus
-Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required
-Strong skills with computer based applications and internet resources. Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications and especially PeopleSoft Software (SiS) preferred
