Description:


The English discipline at Georgia Gwinnett College (GGC) seeks one position of Instructor or open-rank professor (Assistant, Associate, or Full), with preference given for experience in and enthusiasm for the teaching of developmental and/or first-year writing, beginning August 1, 2017.

Successful candidates join a rapidly growing cadre of energetic colleagues working to build an innovative English major with concentrations in Language and Literature, Writing and Rhetoric, Teacher Certification, and Interdisciplinary Studies on the newest campus in the University System of Georgia. Successful candidates will be expected to teach first-year composition and general education courses, and upper division courses as available. Applicants should demonstrate significant innovation in teaching, superior service to the institution, and established research credentials. Commitment to building a new college is also essential. GGC emphasizes a student-centered learning environment.

Minimum and Preferred Qualifications:


Minimum

Applicants for the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor faculty position should hold a terminal degree specializing in rhetoric and composition or a closely-related field before or within the semester of the start date; applicants for the Instructor position should hold a Master's degree specializing in rhetoric and composition or a closely-related field before or within the semester of the start date. Applicants for any English faculty position must have a minimum of 18 ENGL graduate credit hours.

GGC is an institution that values and encourages innovative teaching. In addition to teaching, applicants are expected to actively participate in scholarly activities, student engagement, and service to the discipline, college, and community. Advising and mentoring are expected of all faculty.



Preferred

Experience in and enthusiasm for the teaching of developmental and/or first-year writing

Interest in and evidence of commitment to working with first-generation students in an open access institution

Experience with service learning and other forms of experiential learning

Additional specializations of interest: new media studies, including digital media, digital rhetorics, and journalism; professional writing; minority rhetorics
