Under supervision, provides and/or oversees expert end-user support by proficiently and accurately inputting, auditing, and reporting on information in CUNYfirst (i.e., PeopleSoft). CUNYfirst is the City University of New York's Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Oracle/PeopleSoft system used to capture and maintain the University's student administration, human resources and finance functions.

This position differs from an Information Technology position in that an incumbent in an Information Technology position provides hardware support, software programming and networking, systems planning, and/or technological troubleshooting while a Business Data and Reporting Analyst is a highly skilled end-user of CUNYfirst. There are 4 levels of this title. Related duties may be assigned as needed.

Levels 1 and 2 are non-exempt from FLSA.

Levels 3 and 4 are exempt from FLSA.

Business Data and Reporting Analyst


The Graduate Center (GC) is the principal doctorate-granting institution of the City University of New York (CUNY). Offering more than thirty doctoral degrees from Anthropology to Urban Education, and fostering globally significant research in a wide variety of centers and institutes, the GC provides academic training in the humanities, sciences, and social sciences. The Office of Human Resources (OHR) supports a vibrant, diverse, and inclusive employee community at The Graduate Center and at its affiliated CUNY colleges and professional schools.

Under the supervision of the Director of HR Operations with some latitude for independent initiative and judgment, performs a broad range of HR information systems projects exercising confidentiality, discretion, and attention to detail. The incumbent will apply Human Resources policies and the applicable contract provisions necessary to develop and maintain systematized operations. This is an excluded position.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Assist in managing the administration of CUNYfirst and Banner and the implementation of Graduate Center's and CUNY's special IT projects ; assigns security roles for HR and access roles including review of reports in CUNYfirst and Banner;
  • Manage the content of the Human Resources web site and the content of multiple electronic communication systems such as digital signage and list serv;
  • Review college audit reports and/or PAYSERV reports for The Graduate School and University Center such as Macaulay Honors College, Advanced Science Research Center, School of Public Health and School of Journalism, including data clean up;
  • Responsible for the maintenance of Banner and CUNYfirst HR module including the processing of employees' data and troubleshooting;
  • Conduct staff training on systems including Banner Self-Service and CUNYfirst;
  • Review source documents for completeness and accuracy; resolve and correct errors or inconsistencies;
  • Coordinate and manage the conversion of legacy systems to new systems including data cleaning and archiving;
  • Conduct testing of data and applications following system upgrades including troubleshooting and participating in User Acceptance Testing (UAT);
  • Responsible in database design and administration including creating query reports and internal data audits;
  • Assist timekeepers in the organization, review of data entry, tracking, and monitoring and reconciling employee's time records;
  • Generate reports from multiple data sources such as CUNYfirst/HCM system and NYS Payroll system (PAYSERV);
  • Troubleshoot and report problems with office equipment, computers and software to the help desk and/or vendors and follow-up as necessary;
  • Supervise staff;
  • Act as liaison with IT team in troubleshooting, installation, roll outs, scheduling and training on system upgrades;
  • Act as the campus CUNYfirst user subject matter expert;
  • Draft, recommend, and implement changes to college processes to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the use of CUNYfirst;
  • Prepare and oversee formal campus CUNYfirst user training;
  • Represent the campus at University CUNYfirst meetings;
  • Act in the absence of the Director of Operations;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


All Levels

  • Possession of a High School Diploma or GED.
  • Demonstrated English language proficiency, including the ability to speak, read, write, and understand English well enough to meet minimally acceptable performance standards set for the job tasks.
  • One (1) year of related full-time experience utilizing PeopleSoft computer software technology. CUNY considers full-time experience to be 35 hours per week. Experience that is less than full-time and more than 20 hours per week can be prorated at 50% (e.g., two month's related work experience at 20-35 hours per week equate to one month's full-time related work experience.)

This title has four levels. To qualify for Levels 2 - 4, additional qualifications, such as education, experience, or certification relevant to the area of specialization are required.

A preferred candidate should have:

  • Working knowledge of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) such as PeopleSoft and Banner.
  • Experience with MS SQL and Oracle database.
  • Knowledgeable in the design and maintenance of website.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and solve technical issues.
  • Extensive knowledge of HR operations including information systems (HRIS) and time and leave policies and procedures.
  • Experience in developing and presenting information to a large audience.
  • One (1) year of related full-time experience utilizing PeopleSoft computer software technology and seven (7) additional years of related full-time work experience utilizing PeopleSoft or Banner or related computer software technology. The seven (7) additional years of work experience required of Assignment Level 4 may be met by one of the following:
  1. An Associate's degree from an accredited institution plus five (5) years of

related full-time work experience utilizing PeopleSoft or related computer

software technology for a total of seven (7) years.

  1. A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution plus three (3) years of

related full-time work experience utilizing PeopleSoft or related computer

software technology for a total of seven (7) years.


New Hire: $73,285/year

Incumbent: $82,813/year

This amount reflects a 13% salary suppression in effect for the first 24 months of employment only.
