Responsibilities

Set up and prepare undergraduate biochemistry lab experiments. Ensure all equipment is operating properly prior to use by students enrolled in laboratory courses. Instruct Teaching Assistants proper laboratory techniques. Maintain and repair instruments used in the lab courses. Maintain a chemical inventory. Collect and properly store hazardous wastes; check labs for safety and security. May be required to supervise evening lab sections, as necessary.
Hire, train and supervise OPS student lab workers.
Assist faculty in developing and testing new laboratory experiments.
Prepare biochemical reagents and standards needed for student experiments.
Collect and properly store hazardous wastes; check labs for safety and security.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biochemistry, or equivalent and two years of related work experience.
Knowledge of and ability to safely operate machinery, tools, equipment and materials used in area of work.
Knowledge of and ability to identify safety hazards and necessary safety precautions to establish a safe work environment.
Experience hiring, training and supervising.
Experience in developing and testing in a laboratory environment.
Experience collecting and storing hazardous wastes.

Anticipated Salary Range

Anticipate hiring in the low to mid $30,000’s.

Pay Plan

This is an USPS (University Support Personnel System) position.

Schedule

Typical schedule is M-F, 8 am to 5 pm with one hour for lunch. May require some evening hours in fall and spring semesters, not to exceed 40 hours per workweek.
