The Department of Computer Science at the University of Virginia School of Engineering and Applied Science seeks an Information Technology Manager to provide leadership and management of its computing services.

We are embarking on a review of our entire research and educational computing infrastructure. We seek a leader who will guide us in defining a robust, state-of-the-art system architecture to support the department as we are experiencing rapid growth in both faculty and students, expanding our high-performance-computing facilities, and launching new, interdisciplinary research initiatives. Additional duties include oversight, maintenance, and support of our computing facility; equipment budgeting for research grants, user support; and managing the departmental computer support staff.

The University of Virginia is one of the top public universities in the nation, located in Charlottesville, which is regularly ranked as one of the top places to live in the United States. The Department of Computer Science is highly ranked and especially known for its work in computer systems and data science. It consists of 25 tenured/tenure-track faculty, 12 instructional faculty, and recently moved into a new building, Rice Hall, with state-of-the-art physical and computational infrastructure.

Candidates must possess a BA or BS degree and at least 4 years of experience in Unix system administration and technical support. Candidates should also be familiar with modern file systems (e.g., ZFS, Lustre, GPFS), load management systems (e.g., PBS, SLURM), security infrastructures, and contemporary hardware platforms and motherboards.
