Required Qualifications (as evidenced by attached resume):

Bachelor’s Degree. Two years of full-time in an equipment management role (i.e. purchasing, budget management, and/or equipment laundering, collection and disbursement). Understanding of NCAA rules compliance. Must have, keep and maintain the appropriate valid NYS Driver's License; have a motor vehicle record which is free from major violations or a pattern of repeat violations. Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with inventory management and/or utilizing inventory software. Experience working with high impact sports (i.e. football, lacrosse, etc.). Experience working in an intercollegiate athletics setting. Experience working in a Division I program or professional sports program. Staff supervision experience. Current AEMA certification.

Brief Description of Duties:

The Assistant Director of Equipment Operations will work with the Director of Equipment Operations in managing daily operations of the full service Athletics Equipment Room. The Assistant Director will be directly responsible for establishing a philosophy and operational plan for procurement, inventory, disbursement and maintenance of athletic equipment for various assigned intercollegiate athletic programs. In addition, this position must prepare budgetary recommendations, monitor, verify and reconcile expenditure of budgeted funds to ensure fiscal solvency, and independently operate a satellite equipment room/operation. The selected candidate will have excellent organizational, written and verbal communication skills.

Equipment Management:

  • The Assistant Director of Equipment Operations will be responsible for managing the daily operation of a satellite athletics equipment room for assigned intercollegiate athletic programs. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, implementing an operational plan, establishing a procedures manual, the procurement of equipment, uniforms & supplies for assigned athletic programs/department staff (in accordance with NYS and University guidelines); disbursement and collection of equipment; laundering of practice gear and game uniforms; and establishing an equipment/uniform replacement cycle. In addition, the assistant director will serve as the department liaison with outside vendors and athletic manufacturers to ensure low pricing for quality equipment and services. The assistant director will be directly responsible for operating a satellite equipment room operation. The assistant director will need to maintain the proper AEMA certifications to ensure proper equipment fitting techniques and stay up to date on industry trends and new safety measures.
  • Budget Management:

  • The Assistant Director will oversee an equipment room budget as well as advising head coaches/department directors (as assigned) in managing their respective equipment allocations. Additional responsibilities include determining fiscal requirements and preparing budgetary recommendations as well as monitoring, verifying and reconciling expenditure of budgeted funds.
  • Inventory Management:

  • The Assistant Director of equipment operations may implement and oversee an inventory control system for all hard/soft goods. This includes utilizing and maintaining a computerized inventory software to provide reports to head coaches, administrative staff and for audit purposes. Implement collection procedure for all disbursed equipment items and track unreturned/damaged items for billing purposes. Additional duties include implementing security procedures to prevent inventory losses and developing a storage plan and philosophy for the equipment room.
  • Staff Supervision:

  • Assistant Director of equipment operations will oversee supervision of a part-time professional and student staff. Responsibilities include assigning daily tasks and ensuring that all staff members are providing quality customer service to all student-athletes, coaches, staff members, etc. Additional duties include working with Director in establishing a staffing plan for all equipment room space and home & away contests coverage as well as training & assigning staff to accommodate equipment needs for each sport. Daily and occasional overnight travel in addition to evening and/or weekend coverage of home contests will be required.
  • Maintenance and Repair:

  • The Assistant Director is responsible for performing minor repairs to equipment as well as ensuring proper fitting and maintenance of all safety and/or required equipment (e.g. football/lacrosse helmet and pads). This includes in-game repairs in “equipment” sports such as football and lacrosse. Additional responsibilities include establishing an equipment replacement cycle for all safety equipment as well overseeing reconditioning of football/lacrosse helmets on an annual basis.
  • Other duties as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.

    Special Notes:

    FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain the FLSA exemption. Night and weekend work will be required.
