General Description of Position: The Kansas State Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory is currently seeking applicants for a Laboratory Client Services Assistant. This position provides both clerical and operational support to the Clinical Pathology Laboratory, the medical technologists, and clinical pathologists.   • Receive samples and requisitions from the VHC and referral clinics
  • check sample integrity
  • verify sample identification
  • enter request into VetView
  • distribute the samples to the appropriate sections
  • contact clinicians if sample details are not complete and if additional information is needed
  • Perform basic laboratory sample preparation
  • Spin and/or split samples
  • Notify technologists when there is a stat sample
  • Track assignments of SOP's whenever changed or rewritten.
  • Help with responsibilities in the lab that don't require a medical technician training, as needed
  • Answer and log telephone calls, relay messages verbally via email or handwritten memos
  • Copy and fax written reports
  • Maintain and file laboratory worksheets and requisitions
  • Retrieve samples for clinicians, technologists, and students and note on request form and in the accession log where sample was sent
  • Reprint lab results as requested
  • Check-in supplies as they are received
  • Note any discrepancy between packing slip and contents
  • Take appropriate paper work to main office for payment of invoices
  • Pay bills as required
  • Wash glassware and lab coats
  • File and maintain hematology and cytology slides
  • Coordinate biohazard collection and disposal
  • Organize and maintain stored supplies
  • Maintain sample storage and disposal
  • Pull slides as requested by faculty for review or teaching purposes
  • All other duties as assigned which include but are not limited to:
  • Representing the lab at technical meetings
  • General housekeeping
  • Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Animal Science or related field or equivalent experience  Preferred Qualifications: • Two years of experience in a laboratory with automated and some manual procedures
