Counselor (11 months)
Provides counseling services to students in individual and group sessions. Responds to crisis situations. Provides risk assessments and mental health evaluations. Develops and presents educational programming and training.
Required Qualifications: Positions require a Bachelor’s degree and three (3) years of professional work experience in student services or related education/experience. Experience leading or directing the work of others. A Master’s degree in a related field may substitute for one (1) year of professional work experience. Any combination of relevant education and professional experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year‐for‐year basis.
Additional Requirements: Master’s degree in Counseling or Clinical Psychology, Social Work or equivalent. Must become licensed as a mental health counselor or social worker in the State of Washington within six (6) months of hire. Demonstrated experience counseling for “high risk” difficulties (e.g. suicide, eating disorders, substance abuse, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)). Demonstrated experience with public speaking, presenting to small and large groups, and development of written training materials. Demonstrated experience in providing crisis intervention. Occasional travel is required. Must work flexible hours including evenings and weekends on occasion.
Preferred Qualifications: Counseling/Clinical experience with a university population. Experience and interest in providing services to diverse student populations (e.g. students of color, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender (LGBT) students, international students, veterans).
