The Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies at the University of Notre Dame's Keough School of Global Affairs (keough.nd.edu) seeks an Executive Director to oversee operations of the Institute. The Kroc Institute is one of the world's leading centers for the study of the causes of violent conflict and strategies for sustainable peace (kroc.nd.edu). The Institute offers programs of study at the doctoral, masters, and undergraduate levels. Its faculty and fellows conduct interdisciplinary research on a wide range of topics, including strategic peacebuilding, peace accords and peace process, and the role of religion in conflict and peacebuilding.

The Executive Director reports to the Regan Director of the Kroc Institute, who provides intellectual leadership and determines the overall goals and strategy for the Institute. Working in close collaboration with the Regan Director, the Executive Director ensures ongoing academic and programmatic excellence through oversight of human resources, finance, operational planning, and the day to day running of the Institute.

The Executive Director oversees staff administration at the Institute, including identification of staffing needs, staff recruitment and hiring, performance assessment, salary administration, and other personnel matters. S/he meets regularly with all faculty and staff at the Institute who have supervisory roles to foster effective staff supervisory practices, and leads regular staff meetings. In carrying out these responsibilities, the Executive Director consults with the Keough School Associate Dean for Operations and Human Resources personnel.

The Executive Director also works with the Regan Director to manage and coordinate finances, events, communications, and alumni relations at the Kroc Institute, and to oversee the operations of significant Institute initiatives, such as the Peace Accords Matrix. The Executive Director accomplishes this through close collaboration with the Associate Director for Finance; overseeing the work of the Events and Visiting Fellows Program Manager, the Associate Director for Alumni Affairs, and the communications program coordinator; and by working on operational issues with directors and staff of Institute initiatives. S/he strengthens the Institute's integration with the Keough School by supporting School-wide coordination efforts led by the Dean's Office on business management, communications, and event planning.

The Executive Director will also contribute to the academic mission and programs of the Kroc Institute and Keough School. The Executive Director may be expected to teach up to 2 courses per year in the area of his/her expertise, depending on experience and program needs. This also may include contributing to student mentoring and advising students working in field internships and the Keough School i-Lab. S/he will also participate on the Keough School Committee on Appointments and Promotions and on Kroc Institute faculty committees.

The Executive Director will hold a non-tenured faculty appointment as a member of the special professional faculty. Rank will be determined based on academic qualifications and experience. Qualifications include a Ph.D. or professional degree in a relevant field (i.e., political science, public policy, law, business or another relevant discipline); significant experience in program administration, preferably in an academic or nonprofit setting; prior experience as an effective supervisor and leader within a complex, multi-faceted organization; strong interpersonal skills to work with a diverse group of faculty, staff, and students; familiarity with the field of peacebuilding; experience as a teacher or mentor, preferably in an area related to peacebuilding and peace studies; and commitment to the mission of the Kroc Institute, the Keough School, and the University more widely.
