RESEARCH LABORATORY ANALYST I

Responsibilities

Prepare mouse cells for flow cytometric analysis using antibody panels designed by PI's and/or staff scientists for phenotypic studies of B cell and T cell populations. This may include, but is not limited to, harvesting and processing tissues from euthanized animals, staining with pre-designed panels, and fixing cells for downstream analysis.

Assist with regular characterization of new mouse lines from multiple collaborators.

Assist with flow cytometry assays for immunization studies from multiple labs.

Perform regular antibody titrations and upload results into a shared database for multiple users; maintain stocks of titered antibodies, order antibodies, fixatives, permeabilization buffers, etc., as needed.

Acquire data using BD flow cytometers, upload and manage data for future analysis by researchers.

Understand and comply with all safety standards and procedures to ensure a safe working environment for all laboratory staff. Adhere to all Duke and DHVI Safety standards, complete all required annual training and participate in lab safety audits, as necessary.

Keep lab equipment, chemicals, reagents and supplies in excellent order.

Perform routine lab maintenance, cleaning, and organizing.

Collaborate with other staff and perform other duties as requested by the Principal Investigator or senior lab staff.

Education, Skills, & Experience Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in biological science or related field
  • Two plus years of relevant laboratory experience including experience with flow cytometry and cell sorters, especially with Becton Dickinson instruments and software.
  • Basic skills in laboratory techniques, including accurately calculating dilutions.
  • Must be able to manage multiple and rapidly changing priorities and have ability to learn new skills.
  • Must be detail-oriented, well organized with strong communication skills and ability to work in an interactive team environment.

Education
