The Center for Electrochemical Science and Engineering in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Virginia seeks a Research Associate to conduct scientific research testing, and interpret and communicate the results associated with several corrosion projects. These projects involve corrosion protection of Al alloys and stainless steel by protective coatings. The successful candidate will conduct studies on multiple projects simultaneously. The ideal candidate will possess the following:
Extensive experience with various experimental electrochemical techniques such as cyclic polarization, EIS, SVET, SKP, SECM as well as characterization methods such as SEM/EDS, XRD, TDS, ICP-OES, optical profilometry, Raman and XPS.
-Ability to analyze and interpret metallurgy, corrosion, and electrochemistry data in order to write papers and progress reports to sponsors.
Evidence of prior success in the form of archival publications in filiform corrosion and cathodic delamination of coatings using SVET, SKP, and/or SECM is a significant plus to the credentials of a successful candidate.
Candidates must have a Ph.D. degree in Materials Science and Engineering including a thesis dissertation with emphasis on protective coatings for corrosion protection of aluminum alloys or steel is required along with evidence of good written and oral English language skills to interact with various sponsors.
