Student Career Program Director

We are searching for a career education leader with a proven record of success. The Director of the Center for Career Engagement and Internships will report to the President of the College. The Director will work very closely with both the Vice President for Student Affairs and the Vice-President for Academic Affairs/Provost. The ideal candidate will be eager to work with the college faculty and administration to develop and implement a unique vision for career education nested within our curriculum and mapped to our Strategic Plan, and will work closely with employers. The Director will develop creative and meaningful programs to engage our students to build and maintain employer partnerships that contribute to expanding existing career pipelines and create new relationships and opportunities. The Director will seek out and cultivate novel relationships within our community to create career opportunities for students from a broad range of majors, and to prepare them as they enter the workforce. The Director will also leverage our extensive network of over 120,000 alumni. Additionally, the Director will be a strategic, dynamic, creative, flexible, transformational leader responsible for assessment, outcomes, and for growing the office into a modern center focused on using industry best practices to ensure the success of our students, strengthen student engagement, enhance career preparation, and increase alumni involvement. We look for a leader with the ability to customize their effort to the needs of diverse stakeholders and to wear multiple roles in a fast-paced, demanding role.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: overseeing daily operations of the office, including the office budget; supervising and evaluating the professional and administrative staff; working alongside the Office of Communication to develop materials used to promote the office's accomplishments and student success stories; implementing a career readiness and professional development strategy for students; collaborating with faculty, deans, and academic departments; providing strategic and creative direction to the office's programs and events; reviewing outcome assessment information to analyze the effectiveness of the Career Center's programs and processes and make adjustments; creating and maintaining relationships with students, alumni, and employers; collecting, maintaining, analyzing, and reporting assessment data; developing action plans to address areas of opportunity and continually enhance established programs; utilizing professional, employer, and alumni network to increase quality internship and employment opportunities; leveraging alumni relationships to increase alumni involvement in programs and events; providing coaching and advisement for students; providing ongoing staff development and support. Responsibilities also include the utilization of technology innovations and enhancements that incorporate social media tools to help engage students and employers more quickly and efficiently.

Bachelor's Degree and eight years' related experience required.
Earned Master's degree in education, human resources, industrial and labor relations, organizational psychology, social work, or related field; previous experience as a career/internship center director or associate/assistant director; prior experience as a recruiter, hiring manager, or HR specialist; experience working with employers and faculty in internship, curricular, or experiential learning projects; demonstrated proficiency with web-based resources for career readiness and internship development; knowledge and experience using social media to effectively communicate with students; demonstrated ability to lead evidence-based change; knowledge of assessment methods and use of data in strategic planning; experience leveraging alumni networks.
CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW
Directs the career services function for a College or Unit.
- Establishes goals, objectives, and plans for providing career services; assesses and reports outcomes to management and the overall College community
- Directs overall operations of physical and virtual career centers, including staff, facilities, and technologies
- Plans and implements marketing strategies for identifying and cultivating a diverse group of potential employers
- Plans, promotes, and markets services and information to students, including information resources, career counseling, informational programs, and assessment programs
- Hires, trains, and manages full- and part-time staff as well as student interns
- Collaborates with other academic and administrative units to promote the goals of the career office
- Performs related duties as assigned.
