Job Description Summary:

The Division of Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) is seeking a Director of Development, Corporate Relations for the George Washington University which reports to the Assistant Vice President, Corporate & Foundation Relations. DAR is responsible for leading the university's alumni and fundraising efforts. DAR seeks to promote a culture of philanthropy throughout the university community, including alumni, students, parents, faculty, staff, corporations and foundations, patients and other friends. Our goal is to advance GWUs mission of excellence in education, research, scholarship, and patient care.

The Director of Corporate Relations will take an innovative approach to planning and implementing strategies that will lead to increased corporate engagement and support for the university. The Director will partner with a team of staff to work closely with the Deans and school-based Directors of Development and other university units, to analyze priorities, build donor driven strategies for corporate engagement and fundraising, and coordinate the solicitation process.

The Director of Development, Corporate Relations will lead corporate fundraising efforts for university-wide initiatives and in collaboration with the Corporate Relations team, and the schools, plan and implement joint strategies. This position will also be responsible for leading the collaboration with non-academic units to maximize existing relationships with corporate partners and identify new partnership opportunities to support the achievement of university goals. The Director will work with and guide the Corporate Relations team to maximize their ability to raise corporate funds and build corporate partnerships for the university. In collaboration with the Assistant Vice President, Corporate and Foundation Relations, and with input from the Corporate Relation team, the Director plans and leads implementation of corporate fundraising strategies for the university.

Duties Include:
• Serves as key point of contact with designated schools and units. Meets regularly with school and unit-based Development staff, plans corporate fundraising strategies for school-based priorities, initiates and helps manage solicitations.
• Leads corporate fundraising efforts for select university-wide initiatives. Responsibilities include: meeting with faculty and Deans to learn more about existing and proposed programs; identifying prospects; creating donor driven solicitation strategies, working with the Corporate Relations staff to implement planned activities.
• Leads, develops and mentors the Corporate Relations staff. Manages the Corporate Relations budget and activities.
• Works with non-academic units, including: career services, alumni relations, the office of research, and external relations to identify opportunities for joint corporate engagement.

Performs other work related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 6 years of relevant professional experience. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Successful track record in corporate fundraising

Mastery of the basic principles and techniques of successful fundraising as they pertain to the identification, cultivation, closure and stewardship of corporate prospects

Superior communication skills (written, verbal and listening)

Excellent organization, public relations and human relations skills

Fundraising experience in an academic setting strongly preferred

Understanding and experience in corporate relations, corporate philanthropy and/or corporate affairs

Ability to coordinate fundraising activities within a complex environment and among a diverse group of internal and external stakeholders

Ability to provide leadership, mutual respect, and work effectively in diverse groups

Ability to work effectively in a changing organizational environment

Strong commitment to team-based management and quality of service

Skilled in translating concepts into donor-driven strategies.
